Review Think Tank Straps

February 28, 2014

During the last short ski, I also had the opportunity to test the Think Tank two types of camera traps and write a review on the "Camera Strap V2.0" and "Camera Support Strap V2.0"

Camera Strap V2.0
When you buy a camera, it’s delivered standard with a strap, that makes sense, but still Think Tank sells (and dozens of other manufacturers) other straps and photographers buy this.   I can of course not speak for other photographers, but I can easily give you my opinion.  An original strap, as for the Nikon D3 and D4 straps, are inferior to the one of Think Tank for two obvious reasons.  On the original strap the camera model is mentioned which might attract potential thieves, but a second and even more important reason is the lack of grip. The Nikon D2X straps were provided with a good layer of non-slip and slid hardly from your shoulders. Straps for the Nikon D3, D3S/X & D4 have however no(or very little anyway) non-slip into their straps.

The Think Tank straps are on two sides provided with a layer of non-slip and don’t mention a camera model anywhere. They are available in two colors, blue and gray, which enables you to distinguish both cameras without having to check the camera number on the body.  The length is, as with the standard straps, good and easily adaptable. They are however significantly longer, which is also an extra advantage. Straps are sold, independently of the color, for 27,25€ at the better photo store.

Camera Support Straps V2.0:
For photographers using a Think Tank backpack who want to keep on photographing when walking,  the "Camera Support Strap V2.0" has been developed.   Through a handy little clip-system that can be attached to both shoulder straps of the backpack and as well to the Think Tank straps, you can walk without having to hold your camera. Your camera will hang in front of you and you only need to lift up your camera to take a picture.

Does it work? In the beginning, you have to search a bit where to attach the clips on the shoulder straps of your backpack and have to find out how long it should be to have your camera right in front of you, but that's only a one-time adjustment.  Afterwards it was very comfortable to walk around and you do not have to take each time your camera out of your backpack.  Simple, but so useful!   The camera support is sold for € 17,25.

Conclusion:
The Think Tank straps are on two sides provided with a layer of non-slip and don’t mention a camera model anywhere. For photographers using a Think Tank backpack who want to keep photographing when walking, the "Camera Support Strap V2.0" is a very nice solution. Through a handy little clip-system that can be attached to both shoulder straps of the backpack and as well to the Think Tank straps, you can walk without having to hold your camera. Your camera will hang in front of you and you only need to lift up your camera to take a picture.

Thanks to Think Tank for delivering the products.

Best regards,
Sven Michiels
