Biography - Sven Michiels

Sven Michiels, born on 6th April 1983, was passionated about photography since he was a child. Lots of family albums can prove it. Until 2003, he tried to make quality images with compact cameras, but due to limited settings, he decided to buy a DSLR. At that time he bought a D70 together with a small lens, a flash and a tripod.

His passion started to grow to an obsession. The well-known “Photography- virus”! Every single free hour, he wanted to improve his knowledge and results and many hours were spending in the garden & house and on location. Already after a short period, he realized that “taking a picture” was one part, but improving that picture on a computer was the other part. And that last part was really completely new: postprocessing images in Raw, Photoshop.

At that moment, he started to meet people (which afterwards became good friends) who knew already a lot more and who were willing to share their knowledge with him. He is very grateful to them for having this opportunity.  The only disadvantage of this new knowledge is that his desire to do more with his small DSLR but that was impossible. The step to sell his equipment and buy professional equipment wasn’t far away.

In the beginning of this new period of his live, he loved to spend the weekends & holidays at the racing circuit at Zolder and Spa Francorchamps. In the winter when there was no racing, he moved to studios and switched over the model photography. Due to excellent contacts in the racing circuit, he had the first time in his life the opportunity to photograph a well-known group in the concert business. He was so exited that he decided to concentrate from now on this new experience.

The last 3 years, he also loved to spend the holidays in the nature, close to wild animals. Every year he tried to leave 2 to 3 times for an extreme holiday with a complete focus on photography. Leaving very early in the morning in extreme weather conditions and with almost no comfort, he adored this no experience!

In 2006, he decided to start his own company "Sven Michiels – Photography" as a second profession next to his full time profession in the ICT sector.

The sentence “Treat a client like a king” is most important for him. Only the best quality at the best price is good enough for his clients. Every print is made on a professional printer and albums are handmade by a small American company with an excellent reputation.
